Surah Al-Anbiya (Chapter 21)

Qur'an-only explanation of Surah Al-Anbiya – nearness of accountability, the collapse of false gods, and a chain of prophet-lessons pointing to Tawheed.
Qur'an-only Accountability Tawheed Prophets
Method: Qur’an explains Qur’an. This page avoids hadith-based additions and focuses on the Surah’s internal logic: how heedlessness forms, how proofs are framed, and how Allah corrects false beliefs through clear principles and historical patterns.
Verses 1–15
Rapprochement of reckoning: heedlessness, mockery, and the pattern of sudden collapse

1. Draws near for mankind their reckoning, while they in heedlessness turn away.

2. There does not come to them an admonition from their Lord as a new (revelation) except they listen to it while they play.

3. Their hearts distracted. And they confer in secret. Those who do wrong (say): “Is this (Muhammad) other than a man like you. Will you then submit to magic while you see (it).”

4. He (Muhammad) said: “My Lord knows whatever is said in the heavens and the earth. And He is the All Hearer, the All Knower.”

5. But they say: “(The revelations are but) mixed up dreams. Rather, he has invented it. Rather, he is a poet. Let him then bring to us a sign like the ones that were sent to (the prophets) of old.”

6. Not a township which We destroyed believed before them. Will they then believe.

7. And We did not send before you (O Muhammad) except men, to whom We revealed (the message). So ask the people of the reminder if you do not know.

8. Nor did We give them bodies that would not eat food, nor were they immortals.

9. Then We fulfilled the promise to them. So We saved them and those whom We willed, and We destroyed those who transgressed beyond bounds.

10. Indeed, We have sent down to you the Book (the Quran), wherein is your reminder. Will you not then understand.

11. And how many a township have We destroyed that were wrong doers, and We raised up after them another people.

12. Then, when they perceived Our punishment, behold, they (tried to) flee from it.

13. “Flee not, and return to that wherein you lived a luxurious life, and (to) your dwellings, perhaps you will be questioned.”

14. They said: “O woe to us, indeed we were wrongdoers.”

15. So that crying of theirs ceased not, until We made them as a field that is reaped, extinct.

Qur’an-Only Explanation (21:1–15)

  • 21:1 — Reckoning is coming close, but people ignore it

“Draws near for mankind their reckoning, while they in heedlessness turn away.”

  • What’s happening: Allah says the Day of Judgement (the day people are judged) is getting closer.
  • Child meaning: It’s like a big test day is coming soon… but people are acting like it will never happen.
  • Lesson: Don’t live like you’ll “never be asked.” Be ready for Allah.
Verse 21:1 illustration

  • 21:2 — New reminders come, but they don’t take them seriously

“There does not come to them an admonition from their Lord as a new (revelation) except they listen to it while they play.”

  • What’s happening: Allah sends them reminders (new verses of the Qur’an), but they don’t take them seriously.
  • Child meaning: Imagine your teacher is explaining something important… but you’re laughing, playing, and not paying attention.
  • Lesson: When Allah gives guidance, don’t treat it like a joke.
Verse 21:2 illustration

  • 21:3 — They whisper, mock, and call the truth “magic”

“Their hearts distracted. And they confer in secret. Those who do wrong (say): ‘Is this (Muhammad) other than a man like you. Will you then submit to magic while you see (it).’”

  • What’s happening: Their hearts are not focused. They whisper secretly and mock the Prophet.
  • Child meaning: They act like kids whispering behind someone’s back saying: “He’s just a normal person like us… why should we listen to him?” They call the truth “magic” so they don’t have to accept it.
  • Lesson: Some people reject truth not because it’s unclear… but because they don’t want to obey.
Verse 21:3 illustration

  • 21:4 — Allah hears and knows everything

“He (Muhammad) said: ‘My Lord knows whatever is said in the heavens and the earth. And He is the All Hearer, the All Knower.’”

  • What’s happening: The Prophet says: Allah knows everything people say—out loud or secretly.
  • Child meaning: Even if someone whispers in a hidden room, Allah still hears it perfectly.
  • Lesson: You can’t hide anything from Allah.
Verse 21:4 illustration

  • 21:5 — They keep changing excuses and demand a miracle

“But they say: ‘(The revelations are but) mixed up dreams. Rather, he has invented it. Rather, he is a poet. Let him then bring to us a sign like the ones that were sent to (the prophets) of old.’”

  • What’s happening: They keep changing their excuses.
  • Child meaning: It’s like they can’t decide what lie to use, so they keep switching: “It’s just dreams!” “He made it up!” “He’s just a poet!” Then they say: “Okay, show us a miracle like old prophets.”
  • Lesson: When someone doesn’t want to believe, they keep moving the goalpost and making excuses.
Verse 21:5 illustration

  • 21:6 — Past nations rejected and were destroyed

“Not a township which We destroyed believed before them. Will they then believe.”

  • What’s happening: Allah reminds them: many people before them also rejected and got punished.
  • Child meaning: Allah is saying: “Other people before you did the same thing—ignored the truth—and it ended badly.”
  • Lesson: Learn from history, don’t repeat the same mistake.
Verse 21:6 illustration

  • 21:7 — Messengers were always human, and knowledge should be asked properly

“And We did not send before you (O Muhammad) except men, to whom We revealed (the message). So ask the people of the reminder if you do not know.”

  • What’s happening: Allah explains: all messengers were humans, not angels.
  • Child meaning: People said: “Why is the messenger just a man?” Allah replies: “Every messenger was a human being.” And Allah says: “If you don’t know this, ask people who have knowledge.”
  • Lesson: Don’t reject the truth just because the messenger is human. And if you’re unsure—ask properly and learn.
Verse 21:7 illustration

  • 21:8 — Prophets ate food and were not immortal

“Nor did We give them bodies that would not eat food, nor were they immortals.”

  • What’s happening: Even prophets needed food and would die one day.
  • Child meaning: Prophets were not robots or superhumans. They ate, slept, and lived like normal people.
  • Lesson: Being chosen by Allah doesn’t mean you stop being human.
Verse 21:8 illustration

  • 21:9 — Allah saved the believers and destroyed the transgressors

“Then We fulfilled the promise to them. So We saved them and those whom We willed, and We destroyed those who transgressed beyond bounds.”

  • What’s happening: Allah always supports His messengers and saves the believers.
  • Child meaning: Allah keeps His promise: the good people who believed were rescued, and the bullies and evil people who refused were punished.
  • Lesson: Allah’s justice always arrives, even if it takes time.
Verse 21:9 illustration

  • 21:10 — The Qur’an is your reminder and guidance

“Indeed, We have sent down to you the Book (the Quran), wherein is your reminder. Will you not then understand.”

  • What’s happening: Allah says the Qur’an is a reminder and guidance.
  • Child meaning: The Qur’an is like a life instruction book: it reminds you what’s right, what’s wrong, and what matters.
  • Lesson: The Qur’an is not sent to be ignored. It’s sent to guide your life.
Verse 21:10 illustration

  • 21:11 — Allah removed wrong nations and replaced them

“And how many a township have We destroyed that were wrong doers, and We raised up after them another people.”

  • What’s happening: Allah says He removed many evil nations and replaced them with others.
  • Child meaning: Allah can remove a powerful group if they become evil, and bring new people instead.
  • Lesson: No nation is too “big” to be held accountable by Allah.
Verse 21:11 illustration

  • 21:12 — When punishment arrived, they tried to run

“Then, when they perceived Our punishment, behold, they (tried to) flee from it.”

  • What’s happening: When punishment finally arrived, they panicked and tried to run away.
  • Child meaning: It’s like ignoring warnings about danger… then when the danger comes, you suddenly try to escape.
  • Lesson: You can’t run away from Allah’s judgement when it has arrived.
Verse 21:12 illustration

  • 21:13 — Their luxury cannot save them from questioning

“Flee not, and return to that wherein you lived a luxurious life, and (to) your dwellings, perhaps you will be questioned.”

  • What’s happening: They are told, in a serious way: you won’t escape.
  • Child meaning: It’s like Allah is saying: “Go back to the life you loved so much… you will be asked about what you did.”
  • Lesson: Your comfort in this world doesn’t protect you from accountability.
Verse 21:13 illustration

  • 21:14 — They admit they were wrong

“They said: ‘O woe to us, indeed we were wrongdoers.’”

  • What’s happening: Now they finally admit they were wrong.
  • Child meaning: They cry out: “We messed up! We were wrong!”
  • Lesson: Regret after consequences come is not the best regret. Better to repent early.
Verse 21:14 illustration

  • 21:15 — They kept crying until they were wiped out

“So that crying of theirs ceased not, until We made them as a field that is reaped, extinct.”

  • What’s happening: They kept crying, but it was too late. They were completely destroyed.
  • Child meaning: They cried and cried… but they refused the truth for too long, so the punishment finished them—like crops cut down and gone.
  • Lesson: Don’t delay listening to Allah until it becomes too late.
The Big Simple Message of 21:1–15 (very simple):
Judgement is coming closer, and the Qur’an is a serious reminder. Some people laugh, mock, and make excuses instead of listening. Allah sees and hears everything. Many nations before were destroyed because of ظلم (wrongdoing). When punishment comes, nobody can escape it. So accept truth and repent early—before consequences arrive.
Verses 16–29
Creation is not a game: truth crushes falsehood, angels are servants, and “son” claims are rejected

16. And We did not create the heaven and the earth and what is between them for a play.

17. If We had intended to take a pastime, We could surely have taken it in Our presence, if We were going to do (that).

18. But We fling the truth against the falsehood, so it crushes it, then behold, it is vanished. And woe to you for that (lie) which you ascribe.

19. To Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those who are with Him (angels) are not too proud to worship Him, nor are they weary (of His worship).

20. They glorify His praises night and day, they do not slacken (to do so).

21. Or have they taken gods from the earth who resurrect (the dead).

22. If there were therein gods besides Allah, then they both (the heavens and earth) would have been ruined. So glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, from what they ascribe (to Him).

23. He will not be questioned as to what He does, and they will be questioned.

24. Or have they taken besides Him gods. Say (O Muhammad): “Bring your proof. This (Quran) is the admonition for those with me and admonition (in scriptures) for those before me.” But most of them do not know the truth, so they have turned away.

25. And We did not send before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, “There is no god except Me, so worship Me.”

26. And they say: “The Beneficent has taken a son.” Be He glorified. But (whom they call sons) are honored slaves.

27. They do not precede Him in speech, and they act by His command.

28. He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot intercede except for him whom He is pleased with. And they, for fear of Him stand in awe.

29. And whoever of them should say: “Indeed I am a god besides Him.” Such a one We shall recompense with Hell. Thus do We recompense the wrongdoers.

Qur’an-Only Explanation (21:16–29)

  • 21:16 — The universe was not made for play

“And We did not create the heaven and the earth and what is between them for a play.”

  • What’s happening: Allah says the universe was not made for a joke or for nothing.
  • Child meaning: Allah didn’t make the world like a random toy. Everything has a purpose and a reason.
  • Lesson: Life is serious and meaningful. It’s not pointless.
Verse 21:15 illustration
Verse 21:16 illustration

  • 21:17 — Allah does not need entertainment

“If We had intended to take a pastime, We could surely have taken it in Our presence…”

  • What’s happening: Allah says: If He wanted “entertainment” (like people do), He wouldn’t need creation for it.
  • Child meaning: Allah is not like humans who get bored and need games. Allah doesn’t need anything.
  • Lesson: Allah is perfect and above needing fun, play, or distractions.
Verse 21:17 illustration

  • 21:18 — Truth destroys falsehood

“But We fling the truth against the falsehood, so it crushes it… and it vanishes…”

  • What’s happening: Allah says truth always destroys lies.
  • Child meaning: Truth is like a strong rock. Lies are like weak glass. When truth hits lies—lies break and disappear.
  • Lesson: Truth wins in the end. Lies don’t last.
Verse 21:18 illustration

  • 21:19 — Everything belongs to Allah, even angels worship Him

“To Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth… and those who are with Him are not too proud to worship Him…”

  • What’s happening: Allah owns and controls everything. Even angels worship Him.
  • Child meaning: Everything in the sky and on earth belongs to Allah. Even the angels—who are very special—still worship Allah and don’t think they’re “too important.”
  • Lesson: Nobody is too big or too important to obey Allah.
Verse 21:19 illustration

  • 21:20 — Angels worship day and night

“They glorify His praises night and day, they do not slacken.”

  • What’s happening: The angels worship Allah constantly and never get tired.
  • Child meaning: Angels keep praising Allah all the time. They don’t get lazy or bored.
  • Lesson: Worshipping Allah is a high honor—not a burden.
Verse 21:20 illustration

  • 21:21 — False “gods” cannot give life

“Or have they taken gods from the earth who resurrect (the dead)?”

  • What’s happening: Allah challenges people who worship other gods: can those “gods” bring dead people back to life?
  • Child meaning: Allah is saying: “You worship things… but can they give life again?” They can’t.
  • Lesson: A true god must have real power—like giving life and bringing back the dead.
Verse 21:21 illustration

  • 21:22 — If there were many gods, everything would collapse

“If there were therein gods besides Allah, then they both (the heavens and earth) would have been ruined…”

  • What’s happening: Allah explains a powerful logic: If there were many gods, the universe would become chaotic.
  • Child meaning: Imagine if two drivers both grabbed the steering wheel of one car. The car would crash. If there were many gods controlling things, the universe would fall apart.
  • Lesson: The order of the universe shows there is only ONE true God.
Verse 21:22 illustration

  • 21:23 — Allah is the Judge, we are questioned

“He will not be questioned as to what He does, and they will be questioned.”

  • What’s happening: Allah is the Judge. People are the ones who will be judged.
  • Child meaning: Allah is like the teacher who makes the exam. Students don’t question the teacher like: “Why did you put that question?” Instead, students will be asked: “What did YOU do? Did you answer properly?”
  • Lesson: Allah is always right. We are the ones accountable.
Verse 21:23 illustration

  • 21:24 — Claims need proof

“Or have they taken besides Him gods. Say: ‘Bring your proof…’”

  • What’s happening: Allah tells the Prophet to ask them for proof that they have other gods.
  • Child meaning: Allah says: “If you claim something, show evidence.” The Qur’an and earlier scriptures taught worshipping ONE God, but many people don’t want to know the truth.
  • Lesson: Don’t follow beliefs with no proof. Truth needs evidence.
Verse 21:24 illustration

  • 21:25 — Every prophet taught the same core message

“We did not send before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that: ‘There is no god except Me, so worship Me.’”

  • What’s happening: Allah says every prophet had the same main message: worship Allah alone.
  • Child meaning: All prophets had one main rule: “Only Allah is God. Worship Him only.”
  • Lesson: Real religion has always been: One God, one worship.
Verse 21:25 illustration

  • 21:26 — Allah has no “son”, angels are servants

“And they say: ‘The Beneficent has taken a son.’ Be He glorified. But (whom they call sons) are honored slaves.”

  • What’s happening: Some people claim Allah has a son. Allah rejects this completely.
  • Child meaning: Allah is not like humans who need children. Angels are not Allah’s children. They are servants created by Allah.
  • Lesson: Allah is above family needs. He is the Creator, not a human.
Verse 21:26 illustration

  • 21:27 — Angels only act by Allah’s command

“They do not precede Him in speech, and they act by His command.”

  • What’s happening: Angels never speak before Allah allows them. They follow His orders perfectly.
  • Child meaning: Angels are very respectful. They don’t talk over Allah. They only do what Allah commands.
  • Lesson: Angels are servants, not gods. They obey Allah fully.
Verse 21:27 illustration

  • 21:28 — Angels cannot intercede without Allah’s permission

“He knows what is before them and what is behind them… they cannot intercede except for whom He is pleased with… and they fear Him.”

  • What’s happening: Allah knows everything. Angels cannot help anyone unless Allah permits it.
  • Child meaning: Allah knows everything about the angels and everything about us. Even angels can’t “save someone” unless Allah allows it. And angels are scared of disobeying Allah.
  • Lesson: Only Allah has final authority. No one can override Him.
Verse 21:28 illustration

  • 21:29 — No one can claim to be a god besides Allah

“And whoever of them should say: ‘Indeed I am a god besides Him.’ Such a one We shall recompense with Hell…”

  • What’s happening: Allah says if any angel ever claimed to be a god, they would be punished.
  • Child meaning: Allah is saying: “Even an angel is not allowed to act like a god.” If anyone claims godhood, it is ظلم (a huge wrong).
  • Lesson: Only Allah is God. Anyone claiming godhood is lying and will be judged.
Verse 21:29 illustration
Big Simple Message (21:16–29):
✅ The universe was created with purpose—not as a joke.
✅ Truth crushes lies every time.
✅ Angels worship Allah and are His servants, not His children.
✅ The universe is too perfectly organized for there to be many gods.
✅ Every prophet taught ONE message: worship Allah alone.
✅ Allah is the Judge, and people will be questioned.
Verses 30–47
Cosmic signs, human mortality, mockery vs. warning, and the precision of divine justice

30. Have those who disbelieved not seen that the heavens and the earth were joined together, then We parted them. And We made every living thing from water. Will they not then believe.

31. And We have placed in the earth firm mountains lest it should shake with them, and We have made therein broad highways to pass through, that they may be guided.

32. And We have made the heaven a secure canopy, and yet they turn away from its signs.

33. And He it is who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Each in an orbit floating.

34. And We did not grant to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad), then if you die, would they live forever.

35. Every soul must taste death. And We test you by evil and by good as a trial. And unto Us you will be returned.

36. And when those who disbelieve see you (Muhammad), they take you not except for mockery (saying): “Is this he who talks about your gods.” While they disbelieve at the mention of the Beneficent.

37. Man is created of haste. I shall show you My signs, so ask Me not to hasten.

38. And they say: “When will this promise be (fulfilled), if you are truthful.”

39. If those who disbelieved only knew the time when they will not be able to drive off the fire from their faces, nor from their backs, nor will they be helped.

40. But it will come upon them unexpectedly and will perplex them, then they will not be able to repel it, neither will they be reprieved.

41. And indeed, messengers before you were ridiculed, so those who mocked them were surrounded by what they used to ridicule.

42. Say: “Who can protect you at the night and the day from the Beneficent.” But they are turning away from the remembrance of their Lord.

43. Or do they have gods who can guard them against Us. They have no power to help themselves, nor can they be protected from Us.

44. But We gave the luxuries of this life to these and their fathers until life prolonged for them. Then do they not see that We gradually reduce the land from its outlying borders. Is it then they who will overcome.

45. Say (O Muhammad): “I warn you only by the revelation.” But the deaf will not hear the call when they are warned.

46. And if a breath of your Lord's punishment were to touch them, they assuredly would say: “O woe to us, indeed we have been wrongdoers.”

47. And We shall set up balances of justice on the Day of Resurrection, so not a soul will be dealt with unjustly in anything. And if there be the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as Reckoners.

Qur’an-Only Explanation (21:30–47)

  • 21:30 — The universe was joined, then separated, and life needs water

“Have those who disbelieved not seen that the heavens and the earth were joined together, then We parted them. And We made every living thing from water…”

  • What’s happening: Allah reminds people that the universe was once together, then Allah separated it. And every living thing needs water.
  • Child meaning: It’s like everything was one big “closed thing”… then Allah opened it and made the world spread out. And every living thing—humans, animals, plants—needs water to live.
  • Lesson: Creation and water are signs that Allah is real and powerful.
Verse 21:30 illustration

  • 21:31 — Mountains are stabilizers, and pathways guide people

“And We have placed in the earth firm mountains lest it should shake with them, and We have made therein broad highways to pass through, that they may be guided.”

  • What’s happening: Allah made mountains strong like anchors, and made pathways through the earth so people can travel.
  • Child meaning: Mountains help the earth stay steady. And Allah made places where you can walk or travel easily, so you don’t get lost.
  • Lesson: Allah designed the earth in a way that helps people live and move around.
Verse 21:31 illustration

  • 21:32 — The sky is a protected roof, but people still ignore the signs

“And We have made the heaven a secure canopy, and yet they turn away from its signs.”

  • What’s happening: Allah made the sky like a protective covering, but people still ignore the signs.
  • Child meaning: The sky is like a huge roof over us that keeps things safe and in balance. But some people look at it and still don’t think about Allah.
  • Lesson: The world around you is full of signs—don’t ignore them.
Verse 21:32 illustration

  • 21:33 — Night, day, sun, and moon all move in perfect order

“And He it is who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Each in an orbit floating.”

  • What’s happening: Allah made time (night/day) and made the sun and moon move in perfect paths.
  • Child meaning: Night comes, then day comes—always on time. The sun and moon move like they’re following a perfect track, like a train on rails.
  • Lesson: Everything runs with perfect order because Allah controls it.
Verse 21:33 illustration

  • 21:34 — No human lives forever

“And We did not grant to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad), then if you die, would they live forever?”

  • What’s happening: Allah says nobody lives forever—not even the Prophet Muhammad.
  • Child meaning: Allah is telling people: “No human is forever. Everyone will die one day.”
  • Lesson: Don’t act like you will live forever. Prepare for the next life.
Verse 21:34 illustration

  • 21:35 — Life is a test with good and bad, and we return to Allah

“Every soul must taste death. And We test you by evil and by good as a trial. And unto Us you will be returned.”

  • What’s happening: Allah explains that life is a test with both easy times and hard times.
  • Child meaning: Everyone will die one day. Life is like a test where good things happen (to test if you stay thankful) and hard things happen (to test if you stay patient).
  • Lesson: Both happiness and hardship are tests. In the end, we return to Allah.
Verse 21:35 illustration

  • 21:36 — Some people mocked the Prophet and disliked Allah’s mention

“And when those who disbelieve see you (Muhammad), they take you not except for mockery… while they disbelieve at the mention of the Beneficent.”

  • What’s happening: Some people mocked the Prophet and laughed at him.
  • Child meaning: They pointed at him like bullies and said: “Is this the one who talks bad about our gods?” But they hate hearing about Allah (The Most Merciful).
  • Lesson: Mocking the truth doesn’t make it false—it just shows arrogance.
Verse 21:36 illustration

  • 21:37 — Humans are impatient, but Allah’s timing is perfect

“Man is created of haste. I shall show you My signs, so ask Me not to hasten.”

  • What’s happening: Allah says humans are naturally impatient.
  • Child meaning: People always want things immediately: “Now! Now! Now!” But Allah says: “Be patient. Everything happens at the right time.”
  • Lesson: Don’t rush Allah’s plan. Be patient.
Verse 21:37 illustration

  • 21:38 — They mocked by demanding the timing of judgement

“And they say: ‘When will this promise be (fulfilled), if you are truthful.’”

  • What’s happening: They challenge and tease the Prophet by asking when Allah’s judgement will come.
  • Child meaning: It’s like they’re saying: “Okay then… when is the punishment? We’re not scared!”
  • Lesson: Some people challenge Allah because they think nothing will happen.
Verse 21:38 illustration

  • 21:39 — They don’t understand how serious it will be

“If those who disbelieved only knew the time when they will not be able to drive off the fire from their faces, nor from their backs, nor will they be helped.”

  • What’s happening: Allah says they don’t realize how serious it is.
  • Child meaning: If they could see what will happen later, they would stop joking. When consequences come, they won’t be able to protect themselves.
  • Lesson: Don’t be confident in wrong actions—because regret may come too late.
Verse 21:39 illustration

  • 21:40 — Judgement can come suddenly

“But it will come upon them unexpectedly… then they will not be able to repel it, neither will they be reprieved.”

  • What’s happening: Allah says judgement can come unexpectedly.
  • Child meaning: It’s like a surprise exam. You can’t say: “Wait, I need more time to study!”
  • Lesson: Be ready now—don’t delay obedience and repentance.
Verse 21:40 illustration

  • 21:41 — Many messengers were mocked before, and mockers faced consequences

“And indeed, messengers before you were ridiculed, so those who mocked them were surrounded by what they used to ridicule.”

  • What’s happening: This happened to many prophets before: people laughed, then punishment came.
  • Child meaning: Many people laughed at prophets like: “You’re lying!” But later, the consequences came and surrounded them.
  • Lesson: Mocking Allah’s message has a serious ending.
Verse 21:41 illustration

  • 21:42 — Only Allah can truly protect you day and night

“Say: ‘Who can protect you at the night and the day from the Beneficent?’ But they are turning away from the remembrance of their Lord.”

  • What’s happening: Allah asks: who protects you every moment? Only Allah.
  • Child meaning: Who protects you while you sleep? Who keeps you safe during the day? Only Allah. But people still ignore Him.
  • Lesson: Your safety is from Allah—don’t forget Him.
Verse 21:42 illustration

  • 21:43 — False gods cannot guard or even help themselves

“Or do they have gods who can guard them against Us. They have no power to help themselves, nor can they be protected from Us.”

  • What’s happening: Allah says false gods cannot protect anyone—not even themselves.
  • Child meaning: If someone worships something weak, that thing can’t protect them. It’s like relying on a broken shield in a battle.
  • Lesson: Only Allah has real power to protect and help.
Verse 21:43 illustration

  • 21:44 — Long comfort can make people careless

“But We gave the luxuries of this life to these and their fathers until life prolonged for them…”

  • What’s happening: Allah explains that people were given comfort for a long time, so they became careless.
  • Child meaning: When people have an easy life for too long, they think: “I’m safe forever.” But Allah shows them signs that their power and control slowly shrink.
  • Lesson: Worldly comfort is temporary. Don’t become blind from luxury.
Verse 21:44 illustration

  • 21:45 — The warning is from revelation, but some refuse to listen

“Say (O Muhammad): ‘I warn you only by the revelation.’ But the deaf will not hear the call when they are warned.”

  • What’s happening: The Prophet’s job is to warn using Allah’s message. But some people refuse to listen.
  • Child meaning: It’s like someone covering their ears and saying: “I don’t want to hear!”
  • Lesson: Guidance helps only the one who is willing to listen.
Verse 21:45 illustration

  • 21:46 — Even a small punishment would make them admit the truth

Criterion to Moses/Aaron, and Abraham’s demolition of idol logic to restore Tawheed

48. And surely, We gave Moses and Aaron the criterion and a light and a reminder for the righteous.

49. Those who fear their Lord in unseen, and they are afraid of the Hour.

50. And this is a blessed reminder (the Quran) which We have sent down. Will you then reject it.

51. And indeed, We gave Abraham his guidance before, and We were well acquainted with him.

52. When he said to his father and his people: “What are these images to which you are devoted.”

53. They said: “We found our fathers worshipping of them.”

54. He said: “Indeed you have been, you and your fathers, in manifest error.”

55. They said: “Have you brought us the truth, or are you of those who jest.”

56. He said: “But your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He who created them. And of that I am among the witnesses.”

57. “And by Allah, I certainly have a plan (against) your idols after that you have gone away (and) turned your backs.”

58. So he reduced them into pieces, except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it.

59. They said: “Who has done this to our gods. Indeed he is of the wrongdoers.”

60. They said: “We heard a young man mentioning of them, who is called Abraham.”

61. They said: “Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify.”

62. They said: “Is it you who has done this to our gods, O Abraham.”

63. He said: “But this has done it, biggest of them, this one. So ask them, if they can speak.”

64. So they turned to themselves and said: “Indeed you, yourselves are the wrongdoers.”

65. Then their minds turned upside down, (and they said): “Indeed, you know well that they do not speak.”

66. He said: “Do you then worship besides Allah things that do not benefit you, nor harm you.”

67. “Fie upon you, and to what you worship besides Allah. Have you then no sense.”

68. They said: “Burn him and help your gods, if you will be doing.”

69. We (Allah) said: “O fire, be coolness and peace upon Abraham.”

70. And they intended for him a plan, so We made them the worst losers.

71. And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the nations.

72. And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob in addition. And each We made righteous.

73. And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command, and We inspired to them to do good deeds, and to establish prayers, and to give charity. And they were worshippers of Us.

Big simple message of these verses (very simple):
Worship Allah alone. Don’t split religion into prideful groups. Every good deed is written and rewarded. The end will come, and some people will regret ignoring truth. Righteous believers will be safe and welcomed. Allah knows everything—public and secret. The Prophet’s message is mercy and a clear warning.
